Try Riggers php-upgrade script.
http://mirror.contribs.org/smeserver/contribs/dmusty/SME6.0/scripts/php4.3.6-upgrade.sh

There is now also a 4.3.7 available at http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/e-smith/contrib/DanBrown/RPMS/i386/
It should be easy to modify Riggers script above for this latest release as well.

I did modifications for php v4.3.7 to Rigger's script
OBS! Use it at your own risk. ;-)

I can´t access your script.
You don't have permission to access /download/php4.3.7-upgrade.sh on this server.

It´s working now
I´ve installed PHP 4.3.7 a week ago on my server (by hand, but the same steps as in your script). I´ve discovered no problems so far.

PHP 4.3.8 from Dan Brown has hit the mirrors.

Even after upgrading to 4.3.8 (was using 4.3.7), I still have the Sessions.save_path=/tmp problem as described here

Can some shed some light?
