Title: Updating PHP
Post by: Mike Fegan on August 28, 2001, 02:47:20 AM
I am having some difficulty updating PHP on my E-smith server. I found the contributed HOWTO Picture Gallery, and attempted to set it up. I hit my first pitfall when trying to install libtiff-3.5.5-10.i386.rpm, I recieved a message that simply stated 'libtiff-3.5.5-10.i386.rpm cannot be installed".

So I decided to update PHP to 4.0.6-7, I launched 'rpm -Uvh e-smith-base-4.4.0-26.noarch.rpm" and recieved the exact same error message. Can anyone tell me what I am missing? Is there something wrong with my setup? Can I add a switch to the rpm command to find out why it is failing?

Any help will be much appreciated.

Most likely what's happened is that your downloaded files were corrupted.  Try downloading them again, and see if it helps.

OK, well I was able to complete the first step of instructions included in the 'Picture Gallery' howto. (libtiff-3.5.5-10.i386.rpm, netpbm-progs-9.9-5.i386.rpm  netpbm-9.9-5.i386.rpm,  unzip-5.41-3.i386.rpm). I then downloaded all of the php-4.0.6 files. When I run a "rpm -Uvh *" I get the following dependencie error: "error: failed dependencies:
        e-smith-lib >= 1.4.0-09 is needed by e-smith-base-4.4.0-26.

How can this be fixed?
