Title: Installing updates - dumb question :(
Post by: abovett on June 22, 2004, 02:17:19 AM
Hi

This may sound dumb, but - what's the procedure for keeping SME server patched up to date? Is there an announcement list somewhere when patches come out? I have been hunting around the site but haven't found anything - maybe I'm just not looking in the right place.

I did find a HowTo on the update-system rpm. If I install that will it allow me to automatically download and install updates?

I have been using version 5.6 (without updates :( ) but I'm downloading 6.0.1 now and I'd like to make a fresh start and keep up to date. How do I find out what patches are required for 6.0.1?

Thanks

Andy B

6.01 is the most current.  There have been some fixes released, but nothing has been formally announced saying these are a set of releases.

Thanks, that's good

If/when updates are released, is there a list or something I can subscribe to so I don't miss them?

Thanks for the suggestion, but looking at that list I don't think it's quite what I want. I just want some way of knowing when important patches (e.g. security updates) are released - that list has more info than I'm looking for I think!

I just had a look at the download mirror and I see that there's an "updates" directory at:

ftp://ftp.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/smeserver/updates/6.0.1/

with (at present) one RPM and a readme. I assume all updates are posted there so I could just check that periodically and download any new updates, I guess.

Cheers

Hi, I am also concerned about keeping my SME Server up to date... I get nervous between major releases if there are no updates readily available.

Does anyone on this forum know a good way to keep the SME server completely up to date as soon as updates are available. I don't mind downloading them, but if you have no idea when they are released, you're system is left vulnerable. There is very little information about this topic in the documentation.

If there is no utility/mechanism available already to do this, then it would be a good development project for some of us to get stuck into I guess.

How about it guys?
