Title: adding more consoles
Post by: jon on June 26, 2004, 04:21:04 PM
when you are at the server console, hitting ALT-F2 or ALT-F3 will bring up other virtual terminals.  two quick questions:

1)  where are these defined in the boot sequence and can i add more (ALT-F4, ALT-F5, etc.)???

2)  i had a midnight commander (mc) session freeze on me in terminal ALT-F2.  i logged into terminal 3, found the process id and used the kill command to end the process.  now how do i restart tty2???

thanx.

on my SME V5.6 i have 6 consoles (alt+F1 - alt+F6)
console1 - console5 can be used to login.
console6 shows the systemlog.

do you really have only 3 consoles?

cheers

yes, just ALT+F1 to ALT+F3.

i believe i've found where to add the additional consoles.  i'll have to add a custom template that will modifiy the /etc/inittab file.  i'm looking into this now.

i also found out why my tty2 console was not restarting.  i missed another process - after i killed that, the terminal restarted.
