I'm new to both SME Server and Linux. I was trying to get freeSWAN up and running on SME server but I think I didi something I shouldn't as when I login via a console I get the following message:
supervise: fatal: unable to start freeswan/run: file does not exist
on startup when syslog tries to start. This message just keeps on scrolling up the screen.
I've been trying to fix this problem for a while now but have been unable to, so am about to admit defeat and reinstall the whole OS again.
If I do this will the old installation of SME Server be written over?
Or will the new installation be installed next to the old one?
Thanks a lot.

I've never played with it before but I think it's similar to inittab. Try a 'man supervise' or 'supervise --help' But I think the following may fix your problem. cd to /service and look for a symlink called freeswan then delete it and restart your system. If this doesn't fix the problem you'll have to do a bit of reading about supervise which is part of the daemontools package. HTH
