Title: FTP: Limit Users ability to delete
Post by: Mjohnson on June 28, 2004, 07:30:23 PM
Need some assistance in configuring FTP Access.  I want to allow the users to read and write, but not to delete or change files.  Here is my setup:

Anonymous Access via Internet is Off
Group access to Read and Write is allowed
Users Chrooted to FTP Ibay folder
Ibay password is off

Do I need to make a change to the FTP conf file?

Is this simply a matter of chmod the files/folders to make them "sticky"

Thanks....

I have exactly the same situation.
Did you find any solution already?

No I did not, but I have implemented a semi-satisfactory workaround.  I have given the users read access and have created a different group with write access.

The problem is that, at least through the panel settings, write access allows for deletion as well.  On other setups of ProFTP, I have been able to limit delete  privledges as well as overwrite privledges.

I also confess I have not taken any time to explore the conf files.  I was hoping someone had solved this, but it appears to not be the case.

I will post if I have any success....

hi.

i'm in the same position. i can create i-bays but there seems to be some issue between the cgi script, the service and the conf files.

have either of you created custom templates? i was thinking of trying this approach...
