I just installed a new SME 6.0.1 box yesterday and I just went through the standard install.. Then, I tried to SSH into the box and I couldn't login with root and the password I just chose. Logging in with admin and that password works just fine (but takes me to the server console instead of the command prompt).
How is it possible that admin & root have different passwords after a standard install?
Can I change the root password while logged in as admin? Or should I just do a re-install of this box?
Thanks,
Chris Buechler

Password is the same, but SSH logons disabled in the default configuration. Enable it via server-manager/remote access

Passwd admin : chose your admin's password and passwd root : chose your root's password...you can select two diferent passwords

Thanks -- I completely forgot about having to go in with the web browser first and enable the root / SSH

True, but if you do this, next time then you use server-manager/users or any e-smith specific actions involving password resets, they will be syncronized again.
