Title: Hardware Advice - Asus Pundit-R (AB-P2800)
Post by: ngomes on July 07, 2004, 03:33:49 PM
Hi,

I intend to buy an Asus Pundit-R (AB-P2800) in order to run the SME Server 6.0.1 on my home (the board from my old pentium II box stopped to work...)
The weblinks for this product are:
- Asus Overview:
http://www.asus.com/products/desktop/pundit-r/overview.htm
- Asus Specification:
http://www.asus.com/prog/spec.asp?m=Pundit-R&langs=01
- Asus Manuals:
http://www.asus.com.tw/support/download/item.aspx?ModelName=Pundit-R&Type=All

Before I buy this barebone I would like to know from you the following:

1 - Has anyone a system like this? If so, what is the complete system configuration (hdd, memory, processor, optical drive, second NIC)?

2 - Will the integrated onboard NIC (ATI IXP200 integrated MAC + RealTek 8201BL PHY) work with SME Sever 6.0.1? Or will it work with some work around?

3 - If you don't agree with my barebone choice, can you point a different system to look for?

Thanks,
Nuno Gomes

Hi again,

I forgot to mention that my goal is to buy a system under 500 Euros/Dolars.

The only thing I can reuse is the hdd (20GB IDE ATA66).

Please help me.

Thanks,
Nuno Gomes

Hi again,

I searched several manufacturers on the web in order to find a dual port fast ethernet pci adapter (low profile) and didn't find anything. Is there anything like this?

Please advice,

Nuno Gomes

I couldn't find one either, though  several gigabit, dual-port, low-profile adapter did come up. One is here:
http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/11650_na/11650_na.HTML

It's only 6.4 cm tall - way overkill for a home system, of course, and $300 to boot!

Anyway, if you just _have_ to have dual ports and low profile 100baseT, looks to me like there's probably something out there.

Good Luck!
