Title: Problem with Nameserver
Post by: Michael H. on September 01, 2001, 09:52:10 PM
Hello,

I just installed e-smith Server 4.1.2 and added ISDN Support for a PCI FritzCard.

I would like to use the server as gateway and server with a dialup connection to a german call-by-call ISP with a dynamic ip adress.

When I start the maschine, it starts dialing and gets a connect. (64000 HDLC).

But I can´t access any webpage or ping an internet server. I seems that e-smith can´t resolve the name to a ip adress.

Except for the dialog windows for setting a Master DNS Server I found no place to type in a Nameserver. I tried to enter here the nameserver of my provider but read in the documentation that it is not needed for work.

Normally linux detects the nameserver via ppp within the login process.

I added the nameserver in the /etc/resolve.conf but it still does not find any webpage via proxy and also ping´in isn´t possible.

What can I do ?

Thank you in advance...

Michael Hamann

Hi

Can you ping the internet from the e-smith server??

And does the test internet access work?? (You may have to test it twice, for it to work)
