Title: Ethernet modem problems
Post by: Matt on July 26, 2004, 10:16:49 PM
Can anyone give me some advice, I have been using e-smith as a server gateway for over a year now with a D-link ethernet modem, which generally works OK, but on occasions the moden loses its connection to the internet and so then does the e-smith box.  The only way I have found to reconnect the moden back to the internet is to uplug it from the e-smith box and plug it directly into the back of a Windows PC and access its web admin page, then once the modem has reconected the e-smith box is fine again.  ( the PC NIC has the same MAC address as the one in the e-smtih box)

This is not a ideal solution so I was hoping that someone out there might have a more simple solution, would using a router be a better idea? I have no experience with routers so any adivce would be much appreciated.

Cheers Matt
