Title: Raid 5 / ASUS P4P800-E / Promise 20378 Controller
Post by: PhilV on August 03, 2004, 05:14:12 PM
Has anyone got any experience of installing SME onto a RAID 5 array, or onto any raid array controlled by the Promise 20378 controller? How do I install drivers for this so that the SME installation can see the drives connected to it?

Thanks,

Phil
Title: Problem with promise 20738 and SME
Post by: cublink on August 09, 2004, 11:07:51 AM
I have the same motherboard and the same problem, from searching the forum it appears that 1) 6.0.x SME doesnt have inherent support for the promise 20738.
2) It is possible to load drivers for the promise but you need to rebuild the kernel as the rpm drivers availble on the ASUS disk are for REDHAT9.0 and not compiled against the same kernel that SME uses.
3) Generic drivers for Linux (not rh9.0 specific) are avaible at the promise site http://www.promise.com select download, all for TX4000 which inludes 378 chipset.
However the readme for the drivers states "make sure the gcc version is 3.x, the gcc for SME is 2.x
I have tried to follow the instructions for compiling the driver but I just get a load of error messages and no ft3xx.0 is created. There appear to be some good howtos on recompiling the kernel and creating a new boot cd with the drivers on, but at the moment i cant create the driver - sigh
