Title: DNS/Internet/Intranet Problem....
Post by: MarkR on August 10, 2004, 12:50:10 PM
Hi all,

Could anyone please help me resolve this problem..

I have installed SME but cannot access any of my virtual domain names from within the LAN, i have a router attached to my SME and have had to set up my SME to use that to resolve DNS's, but now my SME doesnt resolve my virtual domains from within the LAN.

If i dont set my router to resolve DNS's, the lan side works fine, but after a while i get a flood of UDP packets(outward bound) through the external ip of my SME server, which stops net access from within the lan.

Ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks

is there anyway i could find out what these udp packets are... IPTRAF tells me that the udp packets originate from my SME external NIC(various ports) to various external IP's (port 53)

You need Contribs /E-Smith to do the DNS for the local network if you want your virtual domain's to work? We you setup the box put the IP for the ADSL router eg 192.168.10.1 in the firewall section and also in the gateway section? It should the work fine.
