Title: gigabit ethernet suggestions wanted
Post by: mike_mattos on August 11, 2004, 06:33:58 PM
The cost of upgrading to a gigabit switch and adapter is now down to about 100 USD, wondered if there are any recommended products?

I plan to put GB cards in the SME6 machine , and a couple of workstations, so the switch will be one of those hybrids with a few GB ports and a lot of buffered 100 ports.  Obviously I want network adapters that are easy to install in both SME and Windows!

Thanks

Mike

Intel E1000 works fine as well as D-Link 1Gb adapters (realtek chipset based). I had to download driver for it , but it was easy install.
I use 5 port TrendNet http://www.trendnet.com/products/TEG-S41SX.htm switch at home ($80)

I believe the D-Link is a realtek based card, SME 6 has the drivers already.  I have used some Connect Gear Gigabit NICs that were realtek based and they worked great.

for DGE-530T driver (sk98lin) is available compiled for RH 7.3. It works fine.
