Title: Lots of network activity after install?
Post by: brookhouse on August 23, 2004, 09:06:41 PM
I have just installed SMEServer and there seems to be a hugh amount of network activity, judging by the hub LED of the port the box is conected to.

Any ideas what it is doing? Is it calling home for updates?

It doesn't call home. Activity depends on the software installed.
Most likely its samba activity like new browse master election, workgroup/domain discovery and also some dns and time syncronization with internet. If you have system-monitor installed that also pings default gateway to time latency on the regular interval.

I am having a similar problem, although I am on a dialup (SLOOOW dialup). I thought maybe it was qmail, but I installed qmHandle and there were no messeges in the queue. What else might be going on? Which logfile would tell me what's accessing the modem?
