Title: Boot Error! PLEASE HELP
Post by: rx7kevin on August 26, 2004, 03:17:48 PM
I had a power outage, twice I think. It left my SME server stopped at a prompt:

boot: Unexpected Inconsistency. Run fsck manually

It asked for the root password to go to command line and run fsck. The prompt was something like

filesystem #1
Hitting enter changes to
filesystem #2  etc..
I then rebooted and typed 'yes'
Now all I get is a column of Y and the HDD is running full speed.

I think I will next try:
fsck -Aa to attempt a repair.

Any suggestions?

I just had a power outage too last night (St. Louis storm) that left my SME server with the same UNEXPECTED INCONSISTENCY error. The battery backup failed so the server had a hard shutdown.

Judging from other posts to this forum it looks like the hard disk can possibly be repaired but should not be trusted afterwards.

It it helps, here are links to some other posts:

I know this'll change my weekend plans...! Good luck!
