Title: HELP! Cannot get multiple domain to work
Post by: edhamlin on August 27, 2004, 06:42:03 AM
I have seen the thread regarding "virtual domain points to primary" but the answers have not helped me.

My virtual domain, "www.retro-brothers.org" points to my primary ibay, despite the fact that I have set up the "Domains" to point to a different ibay. When I type in www.retro-brothers.org/retro.bros, I get the page from the desired domain (which is the Mambo CMS startup page). Obviously both domains are pointing to the same place.

I am running 6.0v3 and using ddclient configured to update both primary and secondary domain in custom dns mode with DynDNS.com. I tried dungog virtual domains but it didn't work so I removed it. I've fiddled with my DynDNS settings but am not a DNS expert and got basically nowhere.

In the aforementioned thread, it said something about allowing wildcards; I have this enabled in ddclient.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

You might try removing the index.htm/html file in your primary ibay.  That is the default index page that is coming up.  FYI, sme will put that back in if you ever reconfigure your server, so if you can setup either a redirector link in the page or someother way to keep the file there, this would be a better solution.

Not being mean or ugly, did someone run a spell checker on the site, there is a missed spelled word.

I am running 6.0v3
Is it beta 3? Any reasons why not to upgrade to final 6.0 or 6.0.1?

Tried that - still does it. I reinstalled dungog virtual domains and tried a redirect there, and it STILL does it. Squid log is showing the same "hit" page coming up - it thinks it's delivering an index.html page on the correct url.

Sloth, I guess. ;-)

Actually I am happy with the v3 release - it's stable and works for me (with this exception of course!) Should it make any difference in this situation?

Reason is that I have a fussy hardware arrangement and it's a pain in the neck for me to generate a good ISO CD ROM - I'm using an iMac running OS 10.3, which for some reason doesn't produce a "pure" CD. So I have an alternate hard drive for my server box that runs plain vanilla Red Hat, I download the file and use Red Hat's utility to generate the CD. Works but it's a lot of work! So I am conservative about updating the server.

Just to clarify a point:

I want to emphasize that Stephen Noble has been extremely helpful and that my problems are due to my own cranial density (aka THICK HEAD), not any problem with his rpm. He is always courteous and spends a significant amount of his time running down problems for his customers. Considering the time difference between California and Australia, he responds to emails nearly instantly, and always has useful suggestions.

Hi!

I may admit I had the same problem, but when I bought a new (and bigger ) HDD for my SME 6V3, I thought that OK, I could do a clean install, as I expected my problem was due to upgrading and backup restores a.o.

So I installed 6.01 and then I got lazy and thought Ok I don't realy need this multiple domain today! so I just restore my backup from 6v3 instead and then I could play with it an other day...

BUT to my big and happy surprise I had no problems any longer, multiple domains was working like a dream

So my advice is... upgrade, it worked for me.

Best regards

So far I have made ALL cds with either toast or disk utility under osx and there were zero problems with them - how does is show up that you have a problem?

I may give it a try. On 10.2 and earlier, I think the OS was trying to add an icon which created an additional file that messed up the iso image. I tried not letting it mount the image on the hard drive. I even tried hacking it using the unix shell. Eventually I gave up.

What it would do was try to mount the iso image, and get part way through the install before quitting with a fatal error (I forget the exact one, something about unable to mount kernal image). Unfortunately it would get far enough to mess up my original server, so basically I had nothing.
