Title: CPU usage 100% help
Post by: trenskow on August 28, 2004, 03:16:44 PM
:hammer:
Hi everyone
Last night, my server is running wild. in cpu states, i can see, that user, is using 80-90% of cpu, and has done so for the last 14 hours. Even continiued after a reboot.
if i use top, i can see that S16adjust-masq,  S55email-conf, S80pptpd-conf, S55mailfront-co,  S47proftpd-conf, S50conf-securit,  S85update-dns and perl5.6.1 is switching to be the one, that uses all of the cpu, i even got 4 of the perl5.6.1 running at top sometimes, with 20% each.

What is wrong here, can anyone help me?

Rasmus

Are you running SpamAssassin, Clam or some other mail filtering app?  The perl script is typical of Clam or Amavis running against a lot of large zip files.

My suggestion would be to try "killall PerlXX" (whatever the exact string is) and see if that doesn't calm down the system some.  Thewn go look for the reason that spawned all of those processes.

yes, i am running spam filter and clam
when i type killall perl5.6.1, it says no process to kill.
when i use top, i can see that user cpu states are running at around 70-90 % all the time. But when i sort the list by CPU usage, there are no procceses that uses that much.
But sometimes S55email-conf pops up, and uses 94%

Found it.
Somehow, the VOiP gateway i have, and my sme server, are using the same subnet mask, a altered the one that the SME server gives to client, and that solved this problem, but at new one occured
