I am using a hosted e-mail solution and want to change from it because it is very unreliable. The question is that the users have to use username@domain.com as the user name and I wanted to know if it is possible to do this with SME 6.
TIA

Yes it's possible. The thing is that you then will have to register the domain name and set up some dns server that "points" to your SME ip.
I used to have that before, but because of a dynamic ip this gave some errors no and then.
To day I just use a dyndns.org adress for the SME and the permanent domain adress at a web hotel. Then a use a adress redirection at the web hotel that forwrad all the mail to the dyndns.org adress.
Works ok. The reason for this arrangement is only because of a dynamic ip. If you have a static ip there will be no problem to send all mail to your SME server directly.
If you will receive the mail directely to the SME you will need a dns server. It's most easy to buy the dns server service from some exteral wendor, the domain registrar for instance.

arne,
thanks for the reply. I already have several e-mail servers in place. I already have my own dns servers. I just need to know if it is possible to use user@domain.com as the user name to retrieve mail (and if so, does anyone know how), instead of just the username without the @domain.com.
Thanks

To my knowledge this is not supported by Qmail in the standard SME configuration (it may be poss to change Qmail to support it but a Qmail guru would need to answer that one).
If I have several domains to do this with where I need say paul@domain1 and a paul@domain2 I use the Dungog vdomain module to make life a bit easier, check it out.
