Title: PPTP
Post by: schotty on September 06, 2004, 10:50:03 AM
Hello all!!

I need some help in usinf VPN or PPTP.

Following Setup :

Customer :

IP-COP - DYNDNS - Changing Internet IP
E-Smith
Clients

Me :
W2k & XP Client

I would like to VPN into the customer network from home.

I had a few problems with IP-COP and would like to try and use pptp with e-smith.
Which port would I need to forward from the IP-COP so that it reaches the e-smith server??

Is PPTP really a bad security hole???
Would an upgrade to openvpn be better??

Many thanks

Schotty

port forward 1723 and 47.  Any open port can be a treat.  As long as you have a good password, and change it frequently, you should e ok.

Don’t forget it is protocol 47 not port 47. If IP-Cop is like SmoothWall you can’t forward protocols with the web gui. You will have to do it by hand in the iptables.
