Title: How do I determine what is causing long mail delivery times?
Post by: timlitw on September 07, 2004, 04:11:15 AM
SME 6.0.1
local network 172.16.17.0
2nd local network 172.16.18.0 router 172.16.17.1 to another building
Pagefault.org antivirus
Spamassassin via procmail(on delivery)
load average: 0.05, 0.11, 0.13

mail in the local building is as fast as expected - several seconds from send to delivery
but mail from the second local network takes 20 - 40 minutes from being sent to getting to the recipients mailbox.

Watching the qmail logs it is received from the client when it is sent without errors from both networks.

So something must be treating the email differently when it is recieved from the second local network.

Any ideas to pinpoint this welcomesd

.. this has been found before - it is a problem with reverse DNS not being configured by default for other network segments in the local networks panel.

Do a search here for reverse DNS or slow email and it should display the relevant posts.

Thanks, that certainly looks like the fix.
