Post by: named on September 15, 2004, 08:13:38 AM
Win XP user  cant login using SME as a domain controller (e-smith 6 ).

Have tried to disable/enable the failing user accounts.
When I make the workstations member of the domain its works fine, after reboot NO password or login works not even admin.

Have changed the passwords several times but nothing helps.

I have changed the workstation name.
Changed the name of the domain i SME. Reconnected the workstation to the new domain. But no.......

PLZ HELP!!!

guiguid's reply worked perfectly for me. It's another case of Micro$oft changing the rules for no other purpose than to break the competition. :-x

Also, if you've already identified your workgroup, you don't need to include what domain you're at. Microsoft's login keeps referring to "user@domain", but you only have to enter the user if it's the same domain.  :-o

I have connected about 20 machines to 6.0.1-01, I am only a basic user, however for what it is worth this is my setup procedure;

1.Install XP Pro and do all updates ( I have not done one with SP2)
2.Go to system / computer name / change  make sure that the computer is a member of a WORKGROUP, any name will do ( I normally use the same name as the domain) .
3.Make sure the computer has a name ( that you want to appear in Network places)
4.Reboot the machine
5.Run regedit and make changes HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\netlogon\parameters]
"RequireSignOrSeal"=dword:00000000
6.Reboot you machine
7.Go to system / computer name / change  select domain and enter the name, click OK. When the login dialog box appears enter admin  and the password for your sme.
After a while, you should see Welcome to Your Domain Name, click OK and it will ask you to reboot, do this and you should then be able to login. For your first login use admin and the password (same as you used to join the domain). If this work you should then be able to log off user admin and login with a normal user.

Hope this helps

Named,

Glad you got it working.

When you say it is not working with the notebooks, what is not working?

Upps, sorry.

Since the laptops are in use at home and work I would like them to have the same profile when I login to the sme server at work (email, apps and so on) as at home.
Did belive that using roaming profiles should solve this.
If not...
Is it possible to synk the docs and settings with netlogon.bat ?

Think it will not work like this unless you use vpn. Roaming profiles wil just work (and make logon slow) at the lan.
