Title: SME 6.0.1 - Dial-up / Remotely hosted mail
Post by: netmask001 on September 22, 2004, 10:47:55 PM
Hi All,

I am well experienced to Linux but completely new to SME.

I am trying to deploy SME for following scenario

1.) The domain COMPANY.COM is hosted on some hosting provider , both web and mails
2.) There are three mail boxes,
a) single user mailbox, say - boss@company.com
b) multi-drop mailbox for one group of users (head office) -say user1@company.com and user2@company.com  - pop box for these users is box1@company.com
c) multi-drop mailbox for another group of users (branch office) user3@company.com and user4@company.com - pop box for these users is box2@company.com

3.) note that I can not configure the SME as MX server as We ONLY have dial-up connection with dynamic IP

My question is
1.) what should be the domain and host names for SME (it's not a real www.COMPANY.com or mail.COMPANY.com because both these are real AND different servers located on the net)

2.) How to achieve mail retrival for multi-drop mails for ONLY one group - let's say head office.

3.) the configuration should be such that mails to users internal to head office (user1@company.com and user2@company.com) is delivered locally, where as mails to other users are RELAYED vis smart host. (external SMTP)

4.) Can we have different ISP accounts attempted for diald (in case one ISP account is not working or slow)

I have already implemented this solution alongwith firewalls / ttransparent proxy / squid using RedHat8 at one of the locations. This time, I want to give SME a try. In the earlier case, I have used sendmail/bind/fetchmail/squid/iptables and finally for multi-isp connections - wvdial.

Can we achieve this in SME - 6.0.1

Best Regards,
