Title: Sub-directories with permissions
Post by: Tib on September 23, 2004, 01:52:31 PM
I've tried to find a topic on this and haven't been able to.

What I would like to know is how to setup subdirectories with different permissions.

eg: xxx group has permission to share ibay ... but only xxy group has permission to qa subdirectory under share ibay. Or enven only a particular person has access to qa subdirectory under share ibay.

Could someone please help me with this ... this is the only thing left for me to work out to put this machine into a production type environment.

I have the windows connections to the domain and logons ok but require this one last step.

Thanks in advance.

Look at the /etc/smb.conf file fro some clues about setting perms on shares.

Then you have the excitement of digging through the Samba docs to get the precise settings you need.

It seems that one of the design decisions made by the original e-smith team was NOT to support different permission in sub-directories.

Whenever you make changes to the permission dropdown in the server-manager, it will do a recursive change on the ibay.

So, even if you did manually set the permissions, ther will be over-ridden when you make a change to the permission drop-down in the server-manager.

Therefore, sme is not the best solution if you must have it.  Or make sure the access control is based on ibays and not subirs...
