I've been through the imaging process many times now. I've gone through all the sme docs and problems with ghost and havent come across this one.
1. I do a ghost disk to disk (or disk to image then restore ... it doesnt matter with my problem)
2. When restoring the image it seems that ghost did not copy any of the /boot files from the /boot partition.
In face on the subsequent boot up I can go into the hd via the root password ( it boots up fine then says problem with the label /boot- this is becasuse it doesnt exist!)
3. I navigate the destination hd and notice that /boot is empty.
ANy ideas on this?
Previously (SME5.5) I was able to do a disk-to-disk making sure the /boot and /swap were exactly the same size and the third could grow to the destination hd size. THat worked fine upto version6
Has anyone had similar problems with ghost lately?
regards
sam

There is some info at the symantec web site re Ghost issues with Linux, search there. The only issue I have recently experienced when cloning sme v6 is lilo.conf problems, see this HOWTO.
http://mirror.contribs.org/smeserver/contribs/rmitchell/smeserver/howto/Cloning%20drive%20with%20Ghost%20lilo.conf%20fix%20HOWTO%20for%20sme%20server.htm
You might also search these forums on ghost.

I scrapped ghost2003 and tried the latest ghost V8.0 (it just fits on a floppy 1.3MB).
I did a disk to disk and then found myself being at exactly the problem that:
http://mirror.contribs.org/smeserver/contribs/rmitchell/smeserver/howto/Cloning%20drive%20with%20Ghost%20lilo.conf%20fix%20HOWTO%20for%20sme%20server.htm
describes.
I followed the instructions here (except my /etc/lilo.conf didnt have any problems ... no line 14 problems with it... all I had to do is a lilo at the console and thereafter it booted fine.
Inface I've logged into this site with my new imaged machine!
Thank Goodness I now have a decent crash recovery image of my system.
I can rest in peace now
Cheers
sam :-)
