Hi all,
i have to setup a new installation for a small company.
What do i need (contribs, howto etc.) ?
- access to the internet via ISDN-DialUp, time based accounting
- proxy caching
- no file and print services (there is a Windows DC managing these functions)
- fetching emails from external e-mail accounts, storing emails in a central place, accessing these mails via IMAP, sending emails via external SMTP
- local backup and testing site for the homepage of the company
- antivirus for mail and/or internet access
The hardware:
- one Pentium II 333 MHz
- 256 MB RAM
- 40 GB Harddisk
Thanks for your patience

Most of the items you listed, the SME Server will do right out of the box. And, your available hardware looks fine.
You'll have to look around for something to do the time accounting. And for av scanning, use this howto to setup ClamAV.

Pretty much everything else can be set in the web-based server-manager.

Hello,
thanks for the information, but is ISDN supported directly (out-of-the-box) ?
I didn't see the configuration for an ISDN-Card during install.
And how about the mail-support ?
I want to setup a local mailserver, which is able to collect Mails from the mailboxes lying at the external Mailserver and distribute it to corresponding local Mailboxes.
It would be nice, if the Mail-Server collects the mails from local users adressed to external mails and send them to the external mailserver only if an internet connection is active.
thanks in advance

Magnum,
I can't help you with the ISDN setup, except to say that others have successfully set up their SME servers and a search of these forums should provide some help.
You can install the fetchmail contrib which expands the default email retrieval (which only supports retrieval from one account) to allow you to individually configure each users email retrieval from multiple accounts.

Also, the script of this thread installs some handy features and security updates.
