Dear Forum
Forgive me this newbiequestion, but I just cant seem to get it right :-?
I have an DSL-connection (40MB/20MB), with one static IP and as many dynamic IP's as i want, and I want to use my old PIII as a webserver and a fileserver. I would like to connect two other computers to the internet. One only for surfing, but the other one, a laptop will need a static IP, so I can sometimes host FTP-servers, Teamspeaks, a.s.o.
I chose the Server/Gateway mode and enabled DHCP on the server. I booted the laptop but couldn't get DHCP to work, I then entered manually a local IP-address and I could connect via mozilla to the server-manager, I then entered a startup-webpage which also worked fine.
I then tried to connect to the www from my laptop, which was less than fine, as it didn't work. I think it is a port-forwarding problem but I tried many things but to no avail. So I have four questions:
1) How to setup so I can connect to the internet from the laptop?
2) Will what I do on the laptop (like P2P) affect the performance of the server, and how much?
3) Whats wrong with DHCP as I don't have a clue?
4) Maybe i should run in another server-mode?
Any pointers will be really appreciated!
Best wishes

All i can suggest is the default gateway/dns settings may not be corrrect on the laptop. I dhcp a laptop and connect to www fine, and also connect from a fixed ip address from another pc.

hey nigeltodd
Thx for your reply. Yeah the gateway forward all pors by default, it all worked MUCH better when I installed another netcard. I skipped that part in the installation process. haha, silly me!
