Title: Upgrade without CD
Post by: kadybee on October 11, 2004, 04:28:24 PM
Is there a way to upgrade SME 5.5 to 6 without loading the ISO?

Or perhaps simpler - and my real issue - upgrading without running anaconda?

I have an old Proliant (1850R) server which is running 5.5, but there seems to be an issue with anaconda failing in later release versions (RH7.3 on).

Any thoughts/suggestions welcomed.

Thanks

Klaus

Recently installed SME6.0.1-01 on an 1850R with no probs.  System used Compaq SCSI RAID which was found automatically.

Make a point of creating the bootdisk on load just in case but I don't recall any probs with this model.

I have also installed SME on DL380 G1, ML350 G1, ML370 G3 all multiprocessor with Compaq SCSI RAID.

Thanks for that.

It isn't failing at the SCSI or RAID point it is somewhere after the video detection in anaconda.  I might have to try messing with the kickstart in vers.6 to see if I can get around it.

Go to the HP website and then to the Smartstart page.  Get the latest firmware ISO and update any items that it finds.

You will probably need to change the Bios settings to nominate Linux as the installed OS; for this you will need Smartstart 5.20 or 5.50.  This version is not available from HP anymore so if you don't currently have a copy a Google search may turn it up.  If not I can prob make it available on my ftp site.
