OK Guys..
I need you to explain whats happening with PPPTD in SME. I have never used it and the past posts are lite on infomation.
So, can some of you guys that have issues with it care to explain in detail what is happening and how you are getting around it?
The link in the wishlist points to a page with a fix, but the fix is non distributable patch.
So.. as much info as possible :)
Cheers!

There are two separate issues and they need to be discussed separately.
1. Site to Site VPN (connection between 2 or more servers) - not natively supported by SME 6.x - to do this you need additional software (openvpn, freeswan, etc). I do not use this type of connection so cannot comment on it or its problems.
2. Point to Point VPN (connection between a client and server) - is natively supported by SME 6.x - problems with these connections are almost always configuration issues, most often on the client side. I use PPTP extensively on a daily basis without any problems. I also have multiple customers that make extensive use of VPN, again no problems. This includes connections where both sides are using SME 6.x as Gateway/Server with clients being Win2K-pro and WinXP-pro. The biggest problems here seem to occur when the server is set to Server Only behind a router or firewall.

This has been my experience
W2K ---SME60 (S/G Mode) -- Inet -- SME60 (S/G Mode
Generally does not work for me.
W2K ---SME60 (S/G Mode) -- Inet -- SME56 (S/G Mode
Works almost all the time
W2K --SME60 (S/G Mode) -- Inet --Linksys - SME56 (S Mode)
(Linksys in PPTP passthrough mode, port forwarded)
Works almost all the time

XP pro SP2 to remote servers:
*Behind SME 5.5 to SME 6.X works all the time.
*Behind SME 5.6 to SME 6.X works sometimes, get error 800 or error 619 sometimes.
*Behind SME 6.X to SME 6.X works sometimes, get error 800 or error 619 sometimes.
*Behind any connection that is not behind a SME server seems to work fine.
Just my experiences

I have it working with sme6, sme5.6, with win2k and XP fine. Depends of the SME setup: server, server/gateway, 2 nic cards or one nic card. I found server mod (1 nic card) with ADSL Router and port forwarding or server/gateway with 2 nic cards and adsl router as long as the external nic is using a routable IP addy works fine.
