Title: Error when applying ftp settings
Post by: cbakken on October 21, 2004, 09:40:27 AM
Hi,
I just installed SMEserver 6.0.1. I want to set up an FTP-server for access from the internet. When I go into Security/Remote Access and set Allow public access (Entire internet) and Accept passwords from anywhere and click Save, I get this error:
Operation status report
Error occurred while updating system configuration.

Have anyone else seen this?

This is a very solid server-panel that most everyone uses with no errors.

You've obviously hacked your box somehow.  Remove the hacks and try again.

No hackin' goin' on.....
This is a fresh install of SMEserver, and the ftp setup is the first thing I try to do on the server-manager panel....

Well, something's up because the Remote Access panel is very solid.  Hundreds of people use it all of the time with no problems.

just a note ...
- greg is obviously right, nobody has been complaining about the Remote Access panel ... it works <eg>
- but maybe cbakken you have installed also one of the proftpd upgrades and this one's the culprit ?

If there is good reason...and a deadlock IMO is ... why not bring things up to (working) date (hack?):
Code: [Select]
wget http://sme.swerts-knudsen.dk/downloads/Updates/6.0.1/ProFTPd/proftpd-1.2.10-es1.i386.rpm
rpm -Uvh proftpd-1.2.10-es1.i386.rpm
/sbin/e-smith/signal-event remoteaccess-update

Just a thought (and YES I also would rather want to look for /know the reason)

Regards
Reinhold

Just a thought on your problem. Would this happen if the server mode were server/router private?
