I have a SME server (6.0.1) running on our local network, i am wanting the windows XP machines to login to the domain so i can use roaming profiles (Mainly for backup purposes).
Currently i have the SME server setup as a workgroup and domain controller, i have the workgroup name as 'mcgirvanmedia' and roaming profiles is switched on.
The clients are currently setup as the workgroup 'mcgirvanmedia' and have no troubble working in this way.
I goto controll pannel/system/computer name/change and change from workgroup to domain and enter the name 'mcgirvanmedia', it seems to find the domain controller as it askes for a username and password, when i enter the username and password for that machine i recieve the message : The following error occured attempting to join the domain "mcgirvanmedia":
Multiple connections to a server or shared resources by the same user, using more then one user name, are not allowed. Disconnect all previous connections to the server or shared resource and try again..
I have tried changing the registory entry 'requiresignorseal' to 0 but it has no effect.
I have tried it on a 2nd machine with the same result.. I'm pulling my hair out over this..
:hammer:

1) when XP asks for the user name and password to join the domain you want to use the admin account on the SME server.
2)I have also read that it may be prudent to make sure that all connections to the server on the XP box have been closed, make sure that you have no shares mapped including printers and that my network places is empty
To verify that all connections are closed go to the command prompt on the XP box and type net use. Then attempt to join the domain.
Let me know what happens.

Worked a charm, thank you VERY much...
Interestingly, after diconnecting ALL the mapped driver, there where still two drives connected when viewing with 'net use'. Annoying how windows likes to do you favours.
loging in with the admin account, why is this requird and is it only required this first time??
