Sceneario:
Sme server 6.0.1.01 fresh install + updates via update script + Jespers Spamassassin & ClamAV scripts
40 Users with outlook 2002 & imap lots of emails and attatchments - some users have over 200mb of email
Problems:
Some emails are not reaching the recipients - no error messages just no email - dissapearing out into the ether! very serious! (even to local users)
Outlook times out or takes a long time to read headers from server sometimes causing outlook to hang (This may partly be a problem with outlook but I think there is an issue here because we had the same problem with a previous sme server hence the fresh install)
This problem only started after we migrated all the users from pop to imap!

If I reboot it fixes the prob for a while!
Am I the only one experiencing this prob?

Try doing this and see if it makes a difference:
/sbin/e-smith/config setprop imap ConcurrencyLimit 200
/etc/e-smith/events/actions/imap-conf
Note: I can't actually remember what this really fixes. There was some discussion about this when 6.0 was initially released. I had a bookmark to it, but it's not valid anymore. I tried searching, but couldn't find anything as well. I make this change when I install a server.
I'd be interested to know if it does any good for you. You could do this first, /sbin/e-smith/config show imap, and see what your settings are.

Nope. I have Outlook haging on IMAP folders as well. Particularly the ones with largish files (~500KB). I usually have to kill the Outlook task to sort it out.
I have not lost any emails (that I know of). Just the hang.
Tried the mod just suggested by mrjhb3 and it made no difference.

Has anybody tried the Cyrus Imap how to?
I am not brave enough to suggest imap to my clients as an exchange/domino replacement just yet.
You could try Thunderbird and see if you have the same probs. I use it at the office with IMAP and it is very slick. It gives you an IMAP sent items and deleted items folder . One thing that is annoying is every message sent makes you wait while it is sending instead of going to the outbox so you can continue to work. This can take quite some time with largish attachements.
Does anybody have any suggestions for a workable IMAP solution for 10 to 50 users???
Thanks
Shane

This is much better after turning off "scan outgoing e-mail"
