Title: Next Release of SME
Post by: eiceic on November 08, 2004, 06:46:41 PM
Does anyone have insight on when a new SME version will be released.  I just bought a new Dell 1800 Server with SATA Raid and I could not get SME to see those drives no matter what I did.

The latest Mandrake and Fedora had no problems recognizing the SATA drives, so I installed Fedora, but I would much rather use SME.

I have customers who want to get a new server and put SME on it, but I don't know of any brand new name-brand server that I can guarantee will work with the SME -- any ideas?

Thanks,

Chris Buechler

eiceic,
Greg,

Fact is: SME kernel is too old to support SATA:

so talking about Gordons advice I'd rather look here .-)

BIOS support seems rather rare - even/especially in Brand Name stuff...

BUT if Chris absolutely want's to install SATA drives he could always go for one of those electrical "genderbenders" SATA <-> ATA like those from Addonics or Abit ... but that doesn't seem to be the only intention.

Regards
