Title: VPN nightmare
Post by: eparsons on November 15, 2004, 05:38:33 AM
Got an issue with an ADSL Netopia Modem/Router here.

Running the new 6.0.1 SME Server... Webmail works just fine.  But when it comes to this new Modem/Router that was installed by Bellsouth, I have no more VPN access.  The settings seem to be fine on the Modem/Router and the connection log is picking up my activity from the outside source PC.  But, the connection just kick's me out to a logon box when it's in it's verification stage from the remote PC.  This really bites as I have no external interfacing with my network until I get this figured out.  Anyone have any suggestions that might help out this newbie to the Linux world.

Much appreciated!

E-man

I can tell you that what you need to do is put that router in "bridged" mode and use the SME machine's built-in DSL username/password login to bring up the connection.  Then you're absolutely good to go, though this procedure will break a static IP if you already have one assigned (it will pull a dynamic IP).

This link may help you; without the exact model number of your router I can't go further.  As always, Google is your friend.  I used a TFTP program to back up the configuration before taking the plunge but what I did worked perfectly right away so I didn't need the backup.  Thankfully.
