Title: External contirbs and SME server
Post by: girkers on November 15, 2004, 10:42:12 PM
With Lycoris taking on SME server I don't believe this will effect the development of external contribs which is a god send to people like me.

I just wanted to put the idea forward about if it was possible that contribs would be able to "certified"to know that they would work fine on particular versions of SME.

A similar thing was (or probably still is) being done by FreeBSD in that any RPM prior to being released was checked to see that all dependancies were resolved and that the install contained everything it needed.

Whilst I appreciate this sort of process takes resources, I feel it contribs to a more stable build (Server) and gives users the assurance that a particular contrib will work as expect on their Server.

Any other thoughts.

Hi,

YFYI Lycoris is thinking about some kind of 'validation' and 'compatibilty' system. It is in the toolbox to be used on the drawing board.
