I see plenty of monitoring packages listed in contribs, I myself run sysmon and mrtg and and am very pleased... but I'm trying to figure how to get it to email me (page me) when Bad Things Happen.
Does anyone know of such "notification of actions" software? I'm thinking something as simple as "shoot off an email if the server is running out of space"...

www.zabbix.org
fairly easy to install (will need to compile, so will need dev tools), but is an excellent monitoring/trending program with email alerting functionality built in. May be overkill if you're only interested in monitoring your server...

Wow... this is nothing short of a full network monitoring package. It certainly does everything I was thinking of and yeah, much much much more... I fear that if I did use it, I wouldn't be able to help myself from setting it up to the max 'just because' and my poor mobile phone would be buzzing off the hook all the time :)
Thanks for the tip!
