Title: which Maildir is which

can anyomne please explain the purpose of the directories inside Maildir?
new is obvious, but what is cur

AFAIK cur is used for Imap connections, meaning read e-mail messages are stored in this directory.

I think your right. I use IMAP and all read mail end up there. With POP they never end up there, since they get downloaded to the mail client. ;-)

This is correct.  With regards to IMAP, the CUR directory contains all messages which have already been viewed with a client such as OE or webmail.  The NEW directory contains messages which have not yet been viewed in a client.
