Title: Update Scripts !?
Post by: stefan24 on November 17, 2004, 08:45:29 AM
Hi!

I'm writing an article for a german magazine about SME Server.

I was searching for the best method updating a SME 6.01 server. Now I found several scripts, which has some disadvantages:

http://no.longer.valid/phpwiki/index.php?pagename=LatestRedHat7.3RPMsUpdate
http://no.longer.valid/phpwiki/index.php?pagename=Latest%20version%20of%20update%20scripts
http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=24285.0

I would like to have/make some modifications:
- Create a tool, which can extract the shell scripts  from the WIKI page automatically
- change the WIKI name to something shorter (without white spaces)
- make 4 scripts:
  - update-download.sh  which only downloads the required updates
  - update-install.sh which installs them
  - extend-download.sh  which downloads some extensions (contribs)
  - extend-install.sh which installs them

- the Download-Script should be written, that it can be started on Windows, too (wget exists for Windows) and should contain some code for checking for errors

- the extend-install script should contain (Y/N) choices and explanation about the contrib, whether to install the contrib

I think, I will start an own wiki with all suggestions made here.

Stefan

Sounds like a great idea, but why can't it be one script run from the server?
