Title: EZMLM and Web Interface w/current contribs.org sme box
Post by: jdanvers on November 17, 2004, 05:45:09 PM
Anyone using this contrib?  I found it via searching here on contribs.org, and found a good how-to on installing it here:
http://mirror.contribs.org/smeserver/contribs/rmitchell/smeserver/howto/ezmlm-web%20HOWTO%20for%20sme%20server.htm

It installs, adds the panel thing in server-manager, but actual usage of it is, ummmm - a bit cryptic.  (To me anyway... :-? )

Basically what I want to do is have an "announce only" list.  The default behaviour for this thing is a typical mailing list where subscribers have full interaction - ie; traffic is two way.  Long story short - a friend of mine has cancer, and has been e-mailing out updates on his chemo treatments to a bunch of people (several hundred, if not thousand by now!) and he knows for a fact that some of his distribution lists are a little wacked.  I proposed this idea to him as it would make it a lot easier to manage than manually mailing people and having some people get the same updates 2 and 3 times (duplicate entries in different distribution lists)

Anyone familiar with this thing?  Basically I'm just not sure what check boxes to check / uncheck in the web interface that the contrib provides.

Thanks folks!

I guess the most important setting is "others rejected", which will only allow moderators to post to the list.

Holk - thanks for the suggestion.  Unfortunately (at least for me, on this particular list that I've setup and am playing with) not.  ;(  I just tried that.

I have one user who is defined as a moderator (me).  I have another subscriber to the list (myself, but from work using my work e-mail address)  I posted to the list after making that change using my work mail account.  I got the message from the list.  {sigh}

Bummer...  I'm starting to think that command line usage of this thing is going to be easier to figure out than this cryptic web interface....
