Title: Install SME on a machine with a SATA disk ??
Post by: cyberdude on November 17, 2004, 08:57:44 PM
Hi!

Is it possible to install SME 6.0 on a machine with a SATA HD installed ??

We are planning to buy a new machine with such a drive in it, and asking because i have some trouble with ver. 5.5 where a normal IDE drive was jumped as cable-select and then failed to finde the HD - first when the disk was jumped as master it succeeded to install....

It´s possible... but something dificult.

I have it working... but have spent some time till discover howto.

As usual was this forum who helped :D

Basically you should choose compatibility mode on BIOS and install as usual.

Maybe with a new kernel (a later install) you can get it working in normal mode.

I´m not sure if worth his cost!

jader.

I have successfully installed SME 6.01 on an Intel motherboard with SATA harddisk with the BIOS set to compatibility mode.
I note that in Canada SATA and IDE are now the same price for the same size disk.

Cheers,
SMEmike.

SMEmike,

Please specify type and bios version of your "Intel" mainboard.
VERY important: Does DMA access work ?
-iow- What is your throughput ?

Thanks
