Title: Email stays on the server
Post by: JodyStewart on November 29, 2004, 05:23:43 PM
I have a user who appears to be getting duplicate emails.  When he deletes them,he downloads the same emails from the server, all over again.  I have checked the Outlook settings on his laptop, and they appear to be fine.  I was wondering if there were settings in SME 6.0.1-01 that would cause someone using Outlook 2000 this problem.

Thanks, in advance.

Did the Outlook session (Send/Receive mail) end prematurely ? Normally this happenes to my users if they have a huge mail in the middle of the queue and they terminate Outlook coz they have been waiting too long. When they start to retrive again, the dup mails appear.

also keep in mind a common outlook/outlook express problem.

outlook and outlook express will reload all the mail sitting at the server account anytime there is a change in the server settings tab.

if you go and make a change in the smtp or pop server name, user, pass, and all that, then outlook sees it as a new config and downloads everything, instead of just what you last left off with.

also the settings in outlook such as 'leave mail on server' will be part of this issue. if you dont need that capability, then you can turn it off and this duplication will not occur.

Although I have not been able to check with the person in question, I have kept track of his file size by going into QUOTA, and his file appears to be empty.  This has led me to believe that he did not give the server time to download every e-mail.  I checked the "leave email on server" setting in Outlook, and it was cleared.

Thanks for the help.
