Last friday I installed the update #3 on my SME Server.
All went fine, but for a big problem that developed in the email server.
Before the update, mail messages sent to root were delivered to the admin account, as expected.
Since the upgrade, the mail server accepts messages addressed to root only if they are sent by itself - in other words, if I log on as root or as an interactive shell enabled user and send mail to root@mydomain.it, it is accepted and delivered as expected.
If I log on another system and send mail to root@mydomain.it, it is rejected with the following error message:
---------- 8< ----------
----- The following addresses had permanent fatal errors -----
root
(reason: 553 Sorry, that is an invalid e-mail address)
(expanded from: root)
----- Transcript of session follows -----
... while talking to mysme.mydomain.it.:
>>>>>> RCPT To:<root@mysme.mydomain.it>
<<< 553 Sorry, that is an invalid e-mail address
550 5.1.1 root... User unknown
...
---------- 8< ----------
Mail to root is rejected even if the remote SMTP server is on a local network.
This is a BIG problem to me, because I have many server (on many subnets, all registered as local networks) with sendmail masquerade features enabled to make use of the SME Server SMTP server that run crontab scheduled scripts as root. Since friday, every log message generates a delivery error, and checking if every script run as expected now is a terrible mess.
What did the update changed? How can I get back the regular delivery to the root account?
Thanks in advance

Add the root user to "Mailfront mailrules"
ie
Accept *@* root@yourdomain
