Title: Preventive Maint (clean disk space etc..)
Post by: Black on December 06, 2004, 03:03:37 PM
Does anyone know how I can perform some preventive maint on my e-smith? I will be running out  of disk space soon and I see alot of log files and stuff that are taking up space but i'm not sure how to delete items properly.

Thanks!

Hi,

You can safely remove logfiles that have been rotated, meaning logfiles that have a date attached to it but NOT the currently symplinked messages, secure etc.

Take a look inside /tmp and loose that stuff in there

Thanks, Can you give me an example of a current symb linked file and a non symb linked file?  I notice when I go to check my logs using the manager there's a TON of the same logs that are in the list but looked like they were zipped or something..

For that you need to login as root on the (remote) console. Take a look at '/var/log/'
