Title: SME v5 will it work on P120 46MB RAM
Post by: Prab Gill on September 27, 2001, 03:44:42 AM
Hello,

I am currently running E-smith 4.1.2 on P120 with 46 MB RAM. I am using it only for 3-5 PCs. Will I be able to install new version 5 on the same hardware or I really need P 400 with 128 MB?

I will appreciate your advice.

Regards.

Well, it should work on your machine, though I'd want to upgrade the RAM if possible.  Check out the manual; the hardware requirements are detailed in there.

I've run it on a P90 with 32MB RAM. Slowly, but it works fine. An RAM upgrade to 64MB helped considerably, and I'm sure another 64MB would have helped.

I'm running SME v5 on a off production test system before upgrading my e-smith
the test is on a pentium 133 with 32mb ram and a 2.5gb hdd
The workstation is a windows 2k pro and sometimes it waits a moment for server response.
This small test system works fine but sometimes would be better with more ram..

i think it could work the same way like 4.2 did, only if you don't use the service link!!Alejandro wrote:

I use SME 5 on a Pentium 90 with 24Mb and a rather closely packed 1Gb HDD and it works fine.

The only thing that I wouldn't recommend on such a configuration is DB related stuff such as WebMail.
