Title: SHAW Cable and the Motorola DOCIS Cable Modem
Post by: chaloner on December 08, 2004, 04:54:08 PM
I have been using Shaw cable internet for years with no real problems. Recently I tried the new Xtreme Shaw by changing modems to the newer high speed Motorola DOCIS modem.

I tried for a couple of days and was unable to get an IP on my SME server. Eventually, I went back to my original setup.

So my questions to this forum are;

1) Has anyone been able to make this work?
2) If so, is there something special that needs to be done to make this go?

Thanks,

I was using the Standard Shaw modem until it died.  REplaced with the new Extreme modem and works without a hitch.  Basically shut down the SME Server, connected the modem and restarted the Server.

Haven't noticed much increase in the download speed, but have noticed a difference when uploading.

My Motorola cable modem just died as well. I decided to give Xtreme internet with the DOCIS modem a try once again.

This time, it was a breeze. I swapped out the modem and fired up the server. It got its IP right away.
