Title: Backup error
Post by: tanyu on December 17, 2004, 04:46:58 AM
Hello!
I'm having a systematic error everynight with my backup on tape.. it ends with :

ERROR from backup, exiting
offending command(s):
cd "/" && find . -depth -xdev ! -type s ! -regex "news/articles" ! -regex ".*~"$ -print0 | tar --create --null --files-from=- --ignore-failed-read --same-permissions --no-recursion --totals --label "level 0 / Fri Dec 17 05:53:28 2004 tar+gzip from webserver" --sparse --atime-preserve -b 20 --file - | gzip -4 | buffer -m 3m -s 10k -u 100 -t -p 75 -B -o "/dev/nst0"
Backup terminated: backup failed - status: 256

Does anyone have an idea of what is going wrong ?? (I simply set up the backup in the user-panel to execute every night.. did nothing else on my 6.0.1 with last updates from contribs.org...)

tnx in advance for any clue..

What sort of tape drive?  Are you sure the system sees it?

at the console, type in st -f /dev/st0 status

If it does, then make sure you have run the cleaner cassette in the drive.  This is another cause of tape-drive problems.
