Title: Seagate 160 GB 8Mb
Post by: jonash on December 17, 2004, 09:47:16 PM
Hello!
I have a problem when I try to boot from a Seagate disk, 160 GB, model 8T3160023A, which I bought today.
It's recognised by the BIOS, and shows the right size. The installation of SME works aswell, but the after the installation the machine do not boot!
It displays a 'L' on the console and then hangs..

Is there anyone out there who has seen this?
Any help is appreciated!

Thank you

Jonas

Hi,

I had that once with a WD 3.2Gb disk. Couldn't fix it. I used the bootdisk which was created at the end of the installation to boot the server.
That worked.

Jonas,

If you made an emergency boot floppy during the installation then try starting the boot from there If you didn't make one, re-nstall and make it.

If the server boots from the floppy then login as root and type lilo and press return.  That will rewrite the LILO into the MBR and may - just may fix it up for you.

Have you tried to change the BIOS settings for the drive to "large" og "normal".
That helped me once with a 120 Gb drive on an old ASUS board

I made a boot diskette, and used it for the first reboot. After the config of network etc, I tried to reboot from the disk, and it worked. I didn't do anything.. it happened automagically...
