This is probably obvious, but I cannot see it for looking. I am running SME to provide local network services rather than connect to the outside world with a real domain name. So I have just invented one -- home.lan. I am using this as my primary domain.
I can ping any machine on my LAN using its hostname, but cannot ping it of I append this made up domain name. i.e. "ping rigel" works, "ping rigel.home.lan" does not.
I see from my PC that it's config states:
Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : europa
Primary DNS Suffix . . . . . . . :
Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Broadcast
IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No
WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No
DNS Suffix Search List. . . . . . : home.lan
I wonder if this impacts my problem?
More concerning, I cannot ping any of the virtual hosts on "self", i.e. neither "ping ftp" or "ping ftp.home.lan" work
I am running SME Server 6.0.1-01
Any pointers on where to look or how to debug would be appreciated.
