Via a recent thread, I was able to solve a problem of joining XP machines to an SME/Samba domain (thanks Ryan :).
But the solution still suggests there's something wrong, which I don't quite understand. On my system, the only way SME would create a computer account was by me giving "root" as the privileged server user during the joining process, not "admin". Before this would work at all, I had to run smbpasswd to create a "root" user in Samba.
Obviously I'm not the only person to have this problem, Ryan for one had already run across it. But from reading other threads, it seems that "admin" works for many people.
"admin" is obviously supposed to work, otherwise SME would create a Samba root user by default. So why does it not work in some cases? I'd suspect some program or script is missing a setuid bit somewhere - any suggestions?
Running 6.01 BTW.
Thanks for any light anyone can throw!
