Title: SlimServer killed my manager!
Post by: stormdragon on January 05, 2005, 05:02:10 PM
Hi all,

I've installed the SlimServer rpm, and now my server won't *serve* anything but mp3s! Has SlimServer nuked Apache? I can't even load my website! Gah!

I'm sure the solution is simple, but I'm relatively new to Linux :)

Thanks in advance.

I'm not familiar with SlimServer, but try entering these at the console and see what it says:

service httpd status

service httpd-admin status

httpd is running. I've stopped the SlimServer service.

Why the heck would it have stopped httpd-admin!?

I've restarted it, and away it goes... but ppl still can't log in to my website.

Man, this is a great board!

So its all working internally now?  But people can't remotely access your webserver?

What message do they get?  Or, does it just not find the server?  What if they type in your IP address directly?

Let us know.

YFYI: I have slimserver running without any problems. ANy specific modifications you've made to your MSE Server or any 'custom' stuff?

Nothing custom other than dungog.net's chroot panel.

I removed slimserver, restarted httpd-admin, and reinstalled slimserver... and now it works!

I had a friend who knows the SME server inside and out come over, and we were able to duplicate the problem by running the slimserver rpm from within an ibay that contained a "default" index.html file (when I originally downloaded it, I had it in a fresh ibay I'd just created. The second time around, I moved it to a directory I have simply called 'installers')

Today I'm going to get to the bottom of this... I'm going to reformat the whole thing with 6.0.1, and try again.
