Title: Hardware requirment

Hello,

I want to setup a gateway/firewall using SME server 6.0.1-01 to replace existing linux firewall . I have more then 200 computers in the local network . What Hardware should i need to use ?  Pentium III/4 ? How many memory ??

Depending on what services you are using, the requirements vary.
If you are going to be using the spam and virus contribs then you would be best with a high end p3 or better a p4. Memory requirements will be at least 512meg ram.

Just read your post again... If you are only after a gateway using nat/proxy, then you may get a beter result using another product as SME offers so much more and may  be an overkill for you.

Hi,

Thank you very much for the suggest, I want to delegate the mail to existing 2 email server ( I still don't know how to do it?) , also enable the spam & virus checking . I want to use squid as the proxy server . A P4 2.4A w/512MB ram is enough ?

That should do it. You can always add more ram later if you have to.
